Testimonials

Before seeing Dr. Bregman, who was highly recommended to me by my General Practitioner, I had very bad foot pain and severe numbness in all my toes on both feet. I had a hard time walking any distance at all. I have had terrible foot and ankle pain since childhood and have seen many doctors. None of which helped my problem at all. I even wore orthotics for over ten years. I have a job which requires me to be on my feet, on a cement floor, sometimes for ten hours a day which doesn't help my foot problem.

On my first visit, I had a simple, painless nerve test and Dr. Bregman and was able to diagnose my problem right away.

I was scheduled for surgery in July 2006. I can honestly say, I had no pain whatsoever after the surgery. I didn't need so much as an asprin for pain. The hardest part of the surgery was not being able to move around like I wanted to, not because I wasn't able but because I was instructed to stay off my foot.

Now I no longer have numbness in my foot. I'm looking forward to having my other foot done in the spring.

Dear Dr. Bregman,
Just a brief word of "thanks" for the professional way in which you treated me and my ankle problem. The minimally invasive procedure you employed has help reduce my ankle discomfort at least 75%. I can now move about with ease and sleeping is much more comfortable thanks to the relief I feel due to the procedure you used. I would most certainly go through the procedure again were I to have a similar issue in the future and would recommend it to others.
Once again, many thanks for your caring approach to your profession.

Respectfully,

Approximately 5 years ago I began to experience stiffness in the big toe joint on my right foot; simultaneously I just had my first grandchild.  At a routine physical with my primary care physical I mentioned the pain I was having, she just said to take ibuprofen for the pain.  Life went on 5 years past, the pain became more intense to the point that I was limping.  I gave up wearing favorite shoes.  Three different people at work mentioned Dr. Bregman to me.  I finally called and made an appointment to see him.  He looked at my foot and said “you have Hallux Rigidus”, and went on to explain what exactly it is and what needed to be done.

I had the recommended surgery on 10/31 and I am amazed with the results.  I am walking for the first time in 5 years without constant pain in my foot.  My only regret is that I did not have the surgery 5 years ago.

Thank you so much!

Dr Bregman,

It has been about 2 months since my surgery and I still can't believe it's all behind me. As you know I was told that nothing could be done for my condition by many other doctors. I write this letter to express my gratitude. I hesitated writing too soon in order to assess my condition better. As you know, severe pain in both my feet and legs has plagued me for many years now. My daily life has been minimal at best, very painful and often unbearable. Most of the time pain was all I thought about and how to escape it. Since my two surgeries on both legs improvements have occurred already.

For someone who always wore multiple Wool socks ( to ward off the intensity of the stinging pain, even in the heat of the summer) I marvel now at wearing only one cotton stocking. This is remarkable! There is a degree of stinging but it is minimal. During the summer I am now able to sleep totally barefoot without any socks! This is indeed a unique experience for me and one I have relished. The excruciatingly painful spasms I suffered when least expected that had left me totally disabled, and in agony until they released, have never occurred since my last surgery in September 2005. These spasms were a terror I most feared. I am now able to recline on the couch with both legs fully stretched out and perfectly still ( and not constantly focused on them) and watch television or reading really amazes me! Leisure, for me, has been an unattainable state of being. The severity of the stinging pain was most apparent when idle. Twitching, turning and even stuffing my feet between couch cushions is all I have ever known in an attempt to struggle against pain. Nothing helped to ease it, even there were times I would put my shoes back on and start walking or busying myself, idleness was unbearable.

There are some days that are better than others, but isn't that true of everything?overall, I am encouraged and deeply grateful thank you Dr. Bregman for helping my difficult condition thank you for releasing those trapped nerves as I continue to be grateful to this day.

Sincerely,

Ruth Cronin, Burlington Massachusetts

Dear Dr. Gappelberg,

Thank you for referring me to Dr. Bregman to perform surgery on my foot. The procedure went very well and the care I received from Dr. Bregman was excellent. I left the hospital after the surgery feeling fine and with complete instructions for care during the recovery period. I have had several follow up visits with Dr. Bregman at which time he checked the wounds and incisions to be sure they were clear of infection, cleaned the areas that needed help, and advised me how to care for the areas. He was always availbale ot answer questions on the phone an expedite visits when I had concerns. He arranged physical therapy and was concerned that I allow enough time for the recovery before returning to work. The incisions healed very well and my foot feels great! I am back to work full time and full speed. Dr. Bregman did an excellent job; thank you again for your referral.

Sincerely,

July 2005

It was less than a month ago that I had my Bunion surgery and I am amazed at how it really was a "painfree" procedure. I left the hospital with a small pain pump. It has a butting that I could press myself for any breakthrough pain. Miraculously, I never had to use it because I never felt any pain. After 2 days I turned it off and removed it. I NEVER took any pain medication for my foot includingt he prescription medication, Advil, or Tylenol. I am truly amazed at how well this foot procedure went and grateful that Dr. Bregman was true to his word of pain free surgery. I only regret that I waited so long to do the surgery and I cannot wait to get the the other foot done.

Sincerely,

Ann Barbagallo

Dr. Bregman,

Thank you so much for doing such a great job with my foot.  I came to you in May of 2007 because I was suffering from pain in the inside ankle area of my right foot.
By the time I came to you for help I had already been suffering for sometime.  You took your time with me and listened to everything I had to say.  I never felt rushed.  That's important.

You gave me a shot of anestesia and my foot felt better but just until it wore off.  I decided to give Physical Therapy a try.  I went there for approximately 10 visits.  They were very good.  My therapist Dave gave it his very best but it was unsuccessful.
My next visit with you, after Physical Therapy came to an end, we decided to do the Tarsal Tunnel Surgery.  We scheduled the surgery for March of 2007.
The nurses and anestesiologist and everyone else involved at the hospital were great.  They really made me feel so relaxed and comfortable.  I wasn't nervous at all.  The surgery went great!  I woke up in recovery with absolutely no after affects from the anestesia.  Everyone was so nice.
My foot was wrapped up in a lot of gauze.  I wasn't in any pain.  I was given a prescription for pain medicine.  I did need the pain medicine from time to time but overall pain was not bad.

I had to use crutches for about a week.  I hated those crutches.  A week after surgery I came back to see you and you put me in a Walking Boot.  That hurt the insision area for about 2 days but got a lot easier over time.  I wasn't all that thrilled with the walking boot either but it was a better alternative than those crutches.
I followed all your instructions for aftercare to my ankle and I healed very quickly.  I only missed about 19 days of work which I think wasn't bad at all.
The hardest part of the entire proceedure, not being able to drive for about 2 weeks because it was my driving foot that had the surgery.
It has been close to 9 months now since my surgery.  My foot is feeling so good.  I tell everybody about how happy I am I had the surgery.  I feel like I have a brand new foot, I really do.  It is so nice to walk pain free.  I am so happy with my results that I am going to have my left foot operated on for Tarsal Tunnel in 2009 and I look forward to it because I know what the end result will be, no more pain.
Dr. Bregman, Thank you so very much.

Dr. Bregman performed a flatfoot correction on my right foot using the HyproCure Subtalar Implant in November of 2007 and to say that I am thrilled with the results is an understatement. I had been suffering all my life with flat feet that got progressively worse and worse and more painful with added plantar fasciistis symptoms. I live in Maine and had been to podiatric docs here over the years who gave me orthotics and finally a foot/leg brace to hold up my painful right arch. I was getting more immobile and more depressed as I was unable to travel overseas (which my husband and I need to do for our
business) as I couldn't walk any distance. I couldn't use my treadmill and was unable to wear heels anymore which mattered a great deal to me. I was 55 years old at the time and felt my walking days were over which I worried was affecting my overall cardiovascular health. My whole family has the same flatfoot problem and my mother at 83 was in a wheelchair as a result. I had to do something.

My sister who lives in Melrose had been a patient of Dr. Bregman and told me about the implant surgery as she was considering it herself. I met with him and was evaluated as having posterior tibial tendon dysfunction with a nearly collapsed arch. He gave me a cortisone shot to help me cope with the pain and evaluated me for the surgery. I didn't know anyone who had actually had the surgery so Dr. B let me speak to some of his patients who very frankly told me about the surgery and the recuperation as well. I made the surgery date for the November of 2007 well aware that the recuperation might take a few months (which it did). It was a fascinating process to go through as my "new" foot adjusted to a beautiful new arch and wonderful flexibility with no pain. At the beginning I had the sensation of walking on the side of my foot with the raised arch (which is normal) as your brain adjusts to the change and your foot feels its new "normal". I am now 57 and no longer wear any kind of orthotics. I have no scars. I can walk, exercise and have lost weight and feel more fit that I have in years and I don't set off the metal detectors at airports! I can travel again which is not only a gift but a necessity. Thank you Dr. B.

Please don't hesitate to contact me through Dr. B's office if you want further information. No longer fat and 50ish!
